Recently, I accidentally caught my niece watching Winx Club, the magical fairy princess cartoon. I was honestly a little surprised that a kid growing up these days could still be so into a cartoon that came out decades ago. But what surprised me even more was realizing that I still liked it just as much as I did when I was a kid. I guess some things just never stop being fun, even when you grow up.

It also reminded me of how much I loved coloring fairy pictures when I was little. I especially liked coloring their pretty dresses and those big, beautiful wings behind them. I could spend ages coloring those pictures. Of course, once I finished, I would just look at them for a while, put them away somewhere, and eventually forget about them.

So after getting a little nostalgic, I thought it would be fun to make an upgraded version of those fairy pictures I used to love. Instead of just coloring a fairy and leaving her on a sheet of paper, I wanted to turn her into a little paper doll that can actually stand on her own.

A Little Fairy Craft for Spring and Special Occasions

Fairy crafts can be a lovely choice for spring, especially when kids are spending more time exploring themes like gardens, flowers, nature, and magical creatures.

These fairy dolls can also work well for birthday parties, playdates, or a fairy-themed afternoon at home. Kids could make the dolls as a small group activity, create a few different fairy characters, or make a set to give to a friend.

Learning Through Crafting

Making these fairy dolls gives kids a chance to practice creativity, color coordination, and careful handwork.

Choosing colors for the dresses, wings, and other details encourages kids to think about which colors look good together and experiment with different combinations. They can also try different color themes for each fairy, giving each one a different overall look.

The cutting, folding, and gluing involved in the craft give kids a chance to practice fine motor skills and hand control. Working with paper also encourages them to slow down, pay attention to the details, and follow the instructions step by step.

This makes the craft a nice choice for classroom or homeschool activities, especially for art projects where kids can explore color, creativity, and hands-on making. It can also be paired with a fairy tale or a simple storytelling activity after the dolls are made.

3D Fairy Dolls Step By Step Guide

Supplies Needed

3D Fairy Dolls Instructions

Step 1: Printing the fairy doll templates on cardstock.

Step 2: Color the fairy dolls and their clothes using colored pencils, crayons, or markers. You can use any colors you like for their dresses, hair, wings, and other details, so each fairy can have her own look.

Try using a slightly darker shade to trace along the edges of each dress layer. This small detail helps give the dresses more depth and makes the finished fairies look more eye-catching.

Step 3: Carefully cut out each fairy doll along the outer outlines.

Step 4: Apply glue to the area marked “Glue” on the dress, then bring the two sides together and press them firmly so they stick. This gives the dress its 3D shape.

Step 5: Color the wings however you like, then carefully cut them out.

Step 6: Glue the wings onto the back of each fairy doll.

I wonder what your fairy dolls will look like with all the colours you choose.

Have fun creating your own little fairy friends!
