Ready to show off a very special Halloween pet? How about a little spider?

Okay… if you’re already feeling a little nervous, we get it. Having a real spider as a pet might be asking a bit too much.

But this little guy? He’s spooky, he’s cute, and he definitely won’t bite. I swear!

He’s actually a pretty great Halloween companion. He can hang out on his web, crawl around, and keep you company without making you jump every time he moves.

Let Kids Celebrate Halloween in Their Own Style

Spiders and spiderwebs are a classic part of Halloween, so this little paper spider fits right into the theme. But I didn’t want it to look like a typical spooky black spider.

Instead, I wanted to give it a little more personality. Kids can choose their own colors and fill the different sections with patterns, so the same template can turn into a completely different spider depending on how they decorate it.

Learning Through Crafting

Making a 3D Pattern Spider gives kids a chance to practice several skills while creating something they can actually play with afterward.

Coloring and adding patterns encourage kids to experiment with colors and come up with their own ideas. Cutting, folding, and gluing give them practice with hand control and coordination, while putting the different pieces together encourages them to follow instructions and work through the project step by step.

This can also make the craft a nice addition to a classroom or homeschool activity. For example, you could pair it with a simple lesson about spiders and let kids make their own spider afterward. They could learn a few facts about spiders first, then use their finished crafts to create a little classroom display or act out a simple story.

At home, parents can do something similar by turning the craft into a small learning activity rather than simply making the spider and putting it away. Kids could learn about where spiders live, what they eat, or how spiders are different from insects before creating their own colorful version.

3D Pattern Spider Instructions

Step 1: Print the 3D Pattern Spider out according to the instructions in the download.

Step 2: Mix and match different colours in the sections already marked on the spider’s body. Try bright, contrasting colours and fun combinations to make your little spider really stand out!

Step 3: Follow the instructions on the template to create the spiderweb. Fold the paper where indicated, then carefully cut out the gray areas to open up the web.

Step 4: To make our spider bounce on the spiderweb, we’ll need a paper string. It’s very simple to make. Glue the two strips together at a 90° angle, then fold them over each other alternately until you reach the end.

For the spider, fold the back down along the center line and glue the pieces together into a stack of three.

Step 5: Glue the back onto the piece with the head and legs to complete the spider. Then attach one end of the paper string to the underside of the spider and glue the other end to the center of the sheet where you attached the spiderweb.

That’s it! Your hanging spider is ready.
